Before the Trip, I wrote my hopes ...

Updated: Feb 12

My story begins on the open road from Seattle to Nova Scotia. In a week, I’ll be embarking on a cross-country trip to finish Echoes of Shadows, a deeply personal memoir that weaves together three narratives: my father’s adventurous hitchhiking journey across America at 19, my own tumultuous childhood, and the life-altering challenges I faced at 19 as a young mother navigating survival.

This trip isn’t just about covering miles—it’s about diving into the heart of the story. Nova Scotia represents a culmination of my father’s spirit of freedom and my determination to tell a story that bridges generations, resilience, and self-discovery.

Traveling solo on a journey like this is both exhilarating and daunting. From stops in Missoula, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Sault Ste. Marie to a week of writing at Gibraltar Island, I’m balancing the logistics of a major road trip with the emotional depth of completing a book that has been years in the making.

I’m incredibly grateful for the support of family and friends who’ve encouraged me through this process. Whether it’s helping with my car, offering advice, or simply being there to listen, their care reminds me that even independent journeys are never truly taken alone.

As I set out, I’m keeping a few things in mind:

- The importance of taking small, steady steps toward big goals.

- Gratitude for the freedom to pursue creative work that means so much.

- A commitment to sharing the lessons and stories I’ve uncovered along the way.

To my network: Have you ever taken a journey—physical or metaphorical—that was essential to achieving a personal or professional milestone? I’d love to hear about it, and I welcome any tips for making the most of a long solo road trip. Here’s to the road ahead, to finishing this story, and to the next chapter of Echoes of Shadows. 🚗✨
