The Lament - A Poem

Updated: Feb 12

every time you talk to me

i sit quiet, seem to stare

like i don’t hear, like i don’t care

even here beside me now

you wonder how

we know nothing at all.

you don’t ask me why i cry

i guess that’s fine, i know i’d lie

but long ago you used to know

long before we grew apart

heart ripped apart

you used to soothe me, too.

even after all these years

not looking past the laughs and tears

it’s just a fact, can’t be brought back

all the respect, years of trust

returned to dust

and now the love is gone.

Two cats sitting together in a window, one whispering in the other's ear. One is orange, one is grey.
